The 50-year-old, who won a bronze in Atlanta in 1996 and a silver in Sydney in 2000, is suspected of attacking the woman, aged under 20, and the male member of staff in his 50s at Komazawa-daigaku Station around 10 p.m. on March 27 and leaving the man slightly injured, according to the police.

Wainaina has admitted to the allegations and was quoted by the police as saying, "There are things I don't remember because I was too drunk, but I think it is what happened." He has also expressed his wish to apologize to the victims, they said.

Wainaina and the woman allegedly got into a fight on a train over the use of a smartphone and got off the train at the station. He is suspected of slapping her when she tried to stop him from walking away and slapping the station employee who responded to the case.
